“The story of an inspired artist.”
Mariana Llanes fell in love with jewelry as her art form in 1994, when she studied in Mexico City with renowned master jeweler Francisco Ortiz. She then took residence in San Miguel de Allende, a premier region of Mexico for modern silver smith design. Soon she was acquiring wax modeling and casting techniques that further sharpened her craft and skills.
Llanes traveled to Jaipur, India, where she had a unique opportunity to develop her resources in semi-precious and precious stones. She worked with Swedish Jewelry Designer Jasmin Zivaljick who encouraged her to cultivate her artistry.
Currently, the Llanes Jewelz Studio is located in the beautiful village of Malinalco, Mexico, where Mariana lives and works with her husband, acclaimed artist Shane Conroy.
Artist Statement
"Experience has taught me that crystals and metals have their own temperaments. Gemstones form inside the earth in a process that takes millions of years. They hide in the depths, waiting to express their beauty. For a jewelry design to emerge: the metal, the gem and the creative impulse of the silversmith have to meet in the present moment. Then, the creative play can start. The alchemy takes place. Just as in life, a birth happens."
